Anniversary Photos

On August 11, 2008 Mom and Dad were married
at Swan Falls Dam
under an old tree.

We intend to return there every year for a family photo.

Second Anniversary.
First Anniversary.

So yesterday, we packed up the coolers
and loaded up Dustin, the dogs, and the motorcycle.
We also brought along Grandma Laura and Aunt Nicole and their two dogs.

It was a beautiful day,
but getting two dogs and a toddler
to simultaneously hold still and smile for the camera
was quite difficult.

Here as some of the least unflattering attempts.
Too far away and those are not our dogs!

Even without the dogs we struggled.

Close but still no dogs.

Even better without the dogs and the toddler.

Getting better, but kind of distant.

If only Mom and Dustin would look at the camera.

I just love this shot of Dustin too much.  I had to include it.

Well you get the idea.
Get the perfect family photo ... we did not do.

But we did get this!

And we have each other!
And we have fond memories of another anniversary at Swan Falls!

A picnic and motorcycle ride post will follow.

Recent Utah Trip

On July 27th, 2011 Mommy and Dustin drove to Utah for a mini vacation.
(Daddy went to Minnesota with his Mom and sister.)

We got to stay with Grandma Dix and Grandpa Gordon and were lucky to see several extended family members while there.

We also made it into Heber in time to attend my cousin's, Brooke Hatch Mair, wedding reception.

On Thursday we did some shopping in Park City and on Friday I took the boys to the Alpine Slides.

The camera didn't come out much during the trip.  I don't know what I was thinking.  Here are a few good shots that I did get though.

At The Outlet Mall
Dustin enjoyed playing on playground.

He even made a friend.
The two of them went down the slide together.

But then, the before mentioned friend hugged Dustin too hard.
This was the end result!

Man he sure needed a nap.  However, he kept on going!
He did much better playing on the coin operated rides.

At The Alpine Slides
It was pretty pricey!!!
But the kids had unlimited access...

... to the slides and coaster
Logan, Dre, Dustin, and Chad.
Ready for the first run.
... to the airplane ride, merry-go-round, and miniature golf.

With Aunt Marla

Eyeing the next horse he wanted to ride.

He managed to turn miniature golf into baseball.

These day INDEPENDENCE means...

... choosing to wear your rain boots to the fireworks display

... insisting upon taking off and putting on your own clothes (mostly taking off)

... avoiding a diaper change at all costs

... wearing little more than a diaper, when you finally do consent to a diaper change.

It also means...
... insisting upon opening and closing your own doors
(and turning on and off your own lights, and getting your own eating utensils, and picking out your own clothes, etc.)

... feeding yourself, especially the really messy stuff

... "helping" Mom and Dad clean the house

... filling up your swimming pool
(this includes turning on and occasionally off the hose)

... driving your own farm equipment

 AND
... pretending you do not hear Mom when she tells you not to climb on the monkey bars

... doing it anyway

... then laughing about it.

HOWEVER...
there are those days when Dad and Mom are allowed to help.

(speaking of independence... check out Mom's "let it dry on its own and do nothing to it", puffy hair.)

And they cherish the moments!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

This is big!

Daddy is 39 years old today.

He spent the morning working at the Farm.  (I know...Hard work on your Birthday?  But that's just Daddy.)

While he was working, Dustin and Mommy were busy preparing his birthday surprises:

1.  We had this picture printed and framed.*  It was taken yesterday while we were at the Farm.

2.  We made crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies with Crisco instead of butter.  Why would we do that? Because that is how Daddy likes them.

3.  We "sewed" up a birthday card, "scribbled" a message, and wrapped his present.

  ****
4.  We cleaned the house** and prepared*** all the fixings for a BBQ.

 So when Daddy got home
He would have a
Big Surprise
*****
And
Know just how much
WE LOVE HIM!

Now for what really happened:
* We ordered a print of the picture and of some other pictures from yesterday.  To many problems and delays to mention...
** We ate breakfast and did the dishes.  Then we had lunch and did the dishes.  Then we made cookies and did the dishes.  Somewhere in there we managed to fold a batch of clothes, wash a load of laundry, and sweep the kitchen floor.  Maybe next birthday I will manage to CLEAN the house.
***I thawed hamburger and made some Suddenly Salad.  Daddy had to do the actual BBQing.
**** & ***** There should be pictures here, but the camera ran out of batteries and who knows when Verizon will send through the ones I took on my phone.  I will have to post them later.

The Gentle Giant

Mom and Dad are big fans of a GIANT
But not just any old giant.
This giant can sing.
His songs are about love and life.
Listening to them makes one's heart and face smile.

You might know him as
Don Williams.

His song,
is our song.
(Well at least that is what Mom says.)

So it was a BIG DEAL when Dad took Mom to his concert on Sunday.
The tickets were my birthday present.

He opened with Good Ole Boys Like Me.

And although he didn't say much,

(I think that is why he is called the Gentle Giant.)

he sounded great and he sang most of his greatest songs...
(Sorry, I gave up on trying to post a video of him singing!)
...except ours.
Bummer!

Oh well we are still big fans.
And there are not many fans who can say
they got to swing dance as
Don Williams sang

Changing Names

This blog has a new name.
It shall now be called A Clark Carol.

Dad, who is always making up cute and clever little puns, is responsible for the original name...Blog Humbug.
Turns out, this is not an original idea.
For starters, there is this, and there is this, and there is this
True, most of the Blog Humbugs are dead, but still.
I want our blog to be original.
Like us.

So in keeping with the whole Blog Humbug theme, I have officially changed the name to A Clark Carol.

May "God bless us, every one!"
